Simon Bird

Creative Director. Generalist with Specialist Tendencies.

Major life update. I’m coming home.

After nearly 20 years in ol’ London town, I’m heading back to Sydney this October.

And judging by what has happened to Sydney house prices since I left, I’m going to need to stay gainfully employed for the foreseeable future.

The UK has been very good to me. I’ve had the chance to work at some brilliant agencies, many of which you’ve probably heard of, like Mother, Uncommon and Saatchi & Saatchi. Not to say the others weren’t brilliant too.

I’ve been a creative director for over a decade. My path here hasn’t been a particularly straight line. More of an enthusiastic squiggle.

Along the way, I’ve picked up what the great Liam Neeson would call a “very particular set of skills”. In my case, they span traditional advertising, storytelling, entertainment, digital and live experiences.

Most recently, I’ve spent the past couple of years helping Special’s new UK office find its feet in Europe.

I’m grown-up enough to lead teams, sharpen ideas and help ambitious work get over the line. But I’m equally happy on the tools and in the weeds.

For a blow-by-blow account of my career, head to LinkedIn.

My future mortgage depends on it.
