About

Multidisciplinary Creative Director

My advertising career started many years ago as an in-house video editor before making the leap into copywriting (back when that meant a lot more actual writing). Since then, I’ve continued to follow a somewhat squiggly career path – one that’s helped me acquire a very particular set of skills (now, reread in a Liam Neeson voice) across storytelling, entertainment, technology, and live experiences.

So, does that make me a highly skilled generalist or a multi-skilled specialist? Correct.

As a creative director, I’ve crafted innovative, award-winning projects, collaborated with world-class talent, led successful pitches, and wrangled complex global campaigns. But I’m still very happy to be getting on the tools and in the weeds.

Since May 2019, I’ve been freelancing as a creative director, wandering from agency to agency like The Littlest Hobo (obscure reference, sure – but undeniably one of the greatest TV theme tunes of all time.) Along the way, I’ve had the privilege of working at some absolutely brilliant agencies, including Uncommon, Saatchi & Saatchi, Special, and Amplify, while also stealing tricks from some of the very best in the business. Prior to that, I was a creative partner at Sunshine, where I also ran the live experience studio. For a full rundown of my career, head to my LinkedIn page.

Based in London, I'm currently looking for freelance and full-time opportunities, so please get in touch: simon@bird.me
